BURNS SUPPER AND CEILIDH – CANCELLED
January
29,
2022
Sadly, after considerable deliberation, the York Medical Society Board has taken the difficult decision to cancel the Burns Supper on Saturday 29th January.
There were several reasons for this including
- the large numbers of local NHS staff off sick as a result of Covid rules about positive tests, and the Board’s view that the Society has a responsibility to protect the NHS from more sickness absence, which is causing high workloads and stress for NHS staff
- the continued high rates of infection in the York area
- the rules on social distancing meaning that the popular Ceilidh element of the Burns Supper would not be possible
- the very small numbers of people pre-registering so far compared to previous years
We appreciate that there is a delicate balance between health and safety measures and the need to have connectivity and networking amongst our members to provide social outlets and protect members from burnout. On this occasion the Board felt the balance was tipped because of the reasons given above.
