An excellent evening of high quality presentations from junior doctors last night at York Medical Society. 5 were shortlisted from over 20 submissions for the annual Founders Prize.
Congratulations to Dr Victoria Procter and Dr Toby Morris who shared first prize.
Dr Victoria Procter discussed a large multi centre study exploring how hernias are managed in the UK. This showed lots of variation and some clear directions to improve quality of care.
Dr Matthew Farr described a study with mice exploring models of vestibular hypo function.
Dr Toby Morris described burnout amongst staff in ICU, respiratory medicine and theatres and the impact of training.
Dr Mariana Matias carried out a study in one Trust showing how group and save for transfusion was being used for laparoscopic cholecystectomy surgery proposing that it was costly and possibly unnecessary.
Dr Henry Davies described how we could improve end of life care in people with aortic aneurysms using data from a large series.
